Dear Friends,
We are in the home stretch! WOW! Have you fallen behind? Well, let me tell you that you are not alone! :) We have had our off days... weeks... and almost month! Catching up can be overwhelming. Instead pick up on TODAY. And remember to not let your perfectionist guilt drive you to give up all together. God's word has so much LIFE in it even if you can only dedicate 2 minutes to reading.

And by the way, you may have noticed that the book of Acts runs parallel in content with the other books in the New Testament. Corinthians, Romans, Galatians... these are all names of cities. The books that we are reading are letters written to these cities, that is why we see a greeting at the beginning of each one. The book of Acts was written by Luke, he is in essence narrating events that took place in the early church. And the letters were mostly written by Paul. Isn't it cool to read about Paul visiting these cities in Acts and then to read a letter that he wrote to them! That's the beauty of God's word.

Here is this weeks reading!

MonMondaySepSeptember26th2011 Week 40
Dear Friends,
Very excited about this week's reading. It is refreshing to read the words of our saviour, isn't it?!

A few tips and thoughts before we begin:
#1) Pay close attention to the "scenes" that are taking place. Don't miss out on imagining how people must have felt to meet Jesus... face to face... and to hear his voice; even his own parents!
#2) The gospel's (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are written in a very story-like way. This was done so that they could accurately tell all the most important information from Jesus time on Earth. We challenge you to retell one the this weeks story to someone in your life.
#3) Isn't it fascinating that these 4 separate accounts are sometimes identical. This seems ordinary to us (just cut and paste right??) but it is extraordinary when you think of the memory capacity necessary to remember and retell these stories.
#4) And it might seem like these men just sat around a table and copied each other's stories but if you pay close attention you will find that each focuses on a different "view" of the story. For instance, Matthew focuses on Jesus as Messiah; Mark has a lot less dialogue and is very fast paced to the point you almost feel out of breath (just check out how often he says "immediately"); Luke, who also wrote Acts, is very historical; and John talks a lot about light and dark (lamp, Jesus is light of the world, truth is in light, ect.). This may seem weird and almost contradictory, but think of it as collecting witnesses for a car accident. Sometimes we see things differently depending on where we were when it happened, what we were doing when it happened, or how we experienced similar instances (aka life experience or baggage). Same with the Gospels. And the coolest thing is that it was all inspired by the SAME GOD through 4 very different men.

Hope you enjoy this week's adventure!

MonMondaySepSeptember19th2011 Week 39
Hello Friends,

Well, here we are ... it's going to be a big and momentous week in our journey!  On Friday, we'll be closing out the final pages of the Old Testament and moving into the New Testament on Saturday!

Did you know that there is roughly a 400-year gap between the telling of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New?  The following is an excerpt that sheds light on this dramatic, but untold portion of history from our Bible ...

"For 400 years after Malachi's prophecies, no prophets or leaders rose to the level of inclusion in the record of Holy Scripture.  For this reason, the period is sometimes referred to as the 'silent years'.  In actuality, these years of social and political upheaval were anything but silent for the Jewish people.
The Maccabean revolt against the Seleucids during the second century BC was one of the most heroic eras of Jewish history.  During these 400 years numerous significant writings were produced as well.  The Qumran community copied the books of Isaiah, the Psalms, Deuteronomy and other sacred writings.  These ancient manuscripts were discovered by a shepherd boy in AD 1947 near the Dead Sea and are known today as the 'Dead Sea Scrolls' ...
But God's story wasn't finished.  'When the set time had fully come,' as the apostle Paul put it, God spoke again - this time in the person of Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, whose birth, life, death and resurrection changed everything.
Now the prophets' ancient promises of a new Servant-King and kingdom of God, the promises anticipated for so many years, came to life in bold new ways.  Now the people could see personified God's gracious, compassionate, unfailing love and dedication to restoring lost relationships through this carpenter and itinerant teacher, Jesus - the Messiah come to set his people free.  All the wisdom and purposes of God centered in Jesus' mission on planet Earth.  He was God's final word."
(The Story.  Zondervan, 2011.  pg. 307)

Let's continue forward together, finishing out this year in our chronological journey through the Bible, and rediscovering who Jesus Christ was and is to us today ...

Dear Friends,

We pray that you are continuing to faithfully read through the Bible with us and most importantly, gaining a larger picture of our great God!  The prophecies of Ezekiel and Jeremiah further paint a picture and tell the story of the state of man's depravity through time.  Even the very nation that was formed by God Himself to be chosen, hand-picked and selected for His own purpose, pleasure and possession turned their hearts away from Him.  Talk about having the greatest promise of all-time!  Yet they cheated on God Almighty for cheap pleasures and false idols.

These prophecies are further telling the story and solidifying an air-tight case as to WHO WE truly are before a great, holy, perfect God ... and WHY we NEEDED a perfect sacrifice, the savior Jesus Christ, to redeem us from eternal and permanent damnation.

Heavy stuff for sure ... but there's no denying it ... the truth is right in front of you again this week!

Hello Friends,

We pray that you are having a relaxing holiday weekend!  Are you using your day off to catch up on your chronological reading plan?

Later this week, we'll be reading one of the most confusing and challenging poetic books of the Old Testament, "Song of Songs" (or also referred as "Song of Solomon").  In order to help shed some light on this book, the 18th Century biblical theologian Matthew Henry wrote the following,

"The books of scripture-history and prophecy are very much like one another, but this Song of Solomon’s is very much unlike the songs of his father David; here is not the name of God in it; it is never quoted in the New Testament; we find not in it any expressions of natural religion or pious devotion, no, nor is it introduced by vision, or any of the marks of immediate revelation ...
... It must be confessed, on the other hand, that with the help of the many faithful guides we have for the understanding of this book it appears to be a very bright and powerful ray of heavenly light, admirable fitted to excite pious and devout affections in holy souls, to draw out their desires towards God, to increase their delight in him, and improve their acquaintance and communion with him. It is an allegory, the letter of which kills those who rest in that and look no further, but the spirit of which gives life, (2 Co. 3:6; Jn. 6:63). It is a parable, which makes divine things more difficult to those who do not love them, but more plain and pleasant to those who do, (Mt. 13:14, 16)."

We encourage you to read Matthew Henry's full introduction by visiting the following link:

MonMondayMayMay23rd2011 Week 22
Dear Friends,
What a great week of reading. We have been blown away with the intricacy of the temple built by Solomon. It really gets you thinking about what we offer God in our own lives. We have been praying for our own hearts to intentionally offer God our best. We were also convicted of David's desire to not put any evil thing before him. As we know neither David or Solomon lived a perfect/sinless life but we know that their greatest delight was to follow the Lord. We are praying that each of us also delight in Him more deeply.

Hello Friends,

We pray that you had a wonderful Holy Week celebrating the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

We wanted to share a great, timely article called "The Royal Genealogy of Jesus" that ties together the key people and events of the Old Testament with the great Messiah, Jesus Christ of the New Testament.  It's important that as we continue to read through the bible this year, that we allow the Holy Spirit to awaken our mind to His great purposes and plan of our life through the atoning work of Christ on the cross.  Since we are reading chronologically, we are many months away from the New Testament, but it's totally awesome to see how Christ is already "appearing" in many of the stories that we have already been reading about!

Take some extra time this week to read through this article:

MonMondayAprApril11th2011 Week 16
Dear Loved Ones,

As spring arrives and your time is stretched between more life events, we pray that you continue to make reading your Bible a priority each and every day this year!  It's important that we discipline ourselves to the continuous learning and training of Godly wisdom and instruction.  The apostle Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 4:7-8, "...discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness ... godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."  Your golf swing, your book club, your workout, your gardening, your kids soccer game, your Harley ... although all of these things are good in the sight of the Lord ... decide today where they are placed on your priority list up against your reading in God's Word.

We still have a long way to go ... so stay with it!  The reward of completing this journey will be worth every moment spent!

Dear Friends,

For this week's update and reading plan, we pulled together a few maps that will help provide some visual context to what we've been reading in these final chapters of Joshua.  If you're like us, the reading of foreign names and places doesn't always stick or provide enough scope, but thankfully, the work has already been done by some great theologians!  We dug up a few maps that show how the land was divided up among the nation of Israel after the conquest by Joshua, in addition to another map of the journey out of Egypt for your review.

Remember, the Bible is more than just a book full of stories with a "good moral message", but it's also a reliable historical document!  This is often forgotten about in our modern day culture, but with access to the resources we have today, is all the more powerful.

We'll be praying for your continued study through God's word this week!

Dear Friends,
We hope you enjoyed last week's reading. We are just a few chapters away from closing out the Pentateuch (the 5 books written by Moses), that's a whole chapter (no pun intended) of Israel's history we are putting behind us. We are really excited to finally read about how God uses Joshua to lead Israel into the promised land.

Here are a couple links to maps that show the journey Israel took from Egypt to the promised land:

Dear Friends,
We have been hearing some really great reports that many of you are keeping up and reaping the benefits of God's word in your lives. And all we have to say is, WOOHOO! It is amazing to be in on this together. Keep up the great dedication!!

But don't get too discouraged if you have fallen behind, there is enough time in the universe to catch up and keep up. I (Mary) was almost 2 weeks behind as of last Sunday. But with a little determination (and a good deal of skimming) I am now caught up. I want to encourage you again to not let false guilt creep its way in and tell you lies like, "If you don't read every word your losing." If we believe that we will lose. But the perfectionism in many of us wants us to believe that if I can't do it 100% its not worth it. And I have to repeat over and over in my head that GOD is the only perfect one. Let us stop putting the pressure on ourselves to do it all. I believe and know that God will bless our efforts, even if we do skim to catch up :)

MonMondayMarMarch7th2011 Week 11
Dear Friends,

We pray that you are continuing to enjoy and be challenged by our adventure in reading through the bible this year!  It's good that we don't neglect some very important truths about what it means to be reading the very word of God, even if we don't fully understand every word or story that has been written.  Look at what some of these verses say about the holy scriptures (emphasis added):

2 Timothy 3:16-17
"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."

Hebrews 4:12
"For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit."

1 Thessalonians 2:12
"...We constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe."

Romans 15:4
"For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope."

Revelation 1:3
"Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it."

Quite possibly one of the most striking verses about the reading of God's word will require us to look ahead towards the end of the story in John 5:39.  Here, Jesus was answering to the religious Jews of the time who were questioning his every move, and he said to them, "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me."  Right there, Jesus comes full circle and acknowledges that in anticipation of salvation, everything that the Jews have read and been living their lives for (including the stuff based in Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers!) have all been telling of and preparing for the coming Savior of the world, Jesus Christ!  Yeah, that's pretty remarkable!

So when you're reading through the bible, take a moment to reflect on how the passages you just read point to our savior Jesus, and meditate on those thoughts.  As a result, the Lord will reveal Himself to you, and you'll be blessed for it!

Dear Friends,

We're glad that you continue to stay the course with us in this great adventure!  If you've been blessed and encouraged by reading through the bible chronologically already this year, it's still not too late to sign-up a friend or family member.  All previous weekly postings are archived online, and they can be found at the same place where they can sign-up to be on the mailing list for themselves at:  http://www.harvestgurnee.org/bibleinyear.

As we enter into the book of Numbers, we wanted to share an in-depth resource to help you gain more understanding if you are interested in digging in deeper.  Fair warning: it's a bit lengthy and very "scholarly", but specifically, Section V on "Purposes of The Book of Numbers" is quite helpful!  You can find this resource at: http://bible.org/article/introduction-book-numbers.

Fell behind? Need to catch up on reading? Want the full reading plan?
MonMondayFebFebruary21st2011 Week 9
Dear Friends,

We pray that you have been able to keep up with the reading. Don't worry or stress if you have fallen a few days (or weeks) behind. You will find it a blessing to stay the journey even if it is behind schedule. We encourage you to look at your calendar and set aside time to catch up a little, there is no doubt you will be blessed by it.

This has been one of the hardest weeks of reading so far for Matt and I. There has been a mixture of intrigue and a whole lot of confusion. The things Moses describes in Leviticus are so foreign to us. But remember, we aren't on this journey so that we can understand everything we read. It is good to just know its there, you have a lifetime to go back and study a certain topic more thoroughly. Here are a few take-aways from this past weeks reading:
  1. Our God cares about the details! :) But that is because he cares about us. How many time did we hear, "do this.... so that you may not die." He wants us to live, and He (out of everyone) knows how the world works and what will be good for us.
  2. God is still helping shape a new nation and that is why we hear all these rules and regulations, even when it comes to clean and unclean standards. Imagine over 600,000 people trying to live together with no standard of clean and unclean. Those words (or labels) were not applied to people to condemn them but to protect them and their community.
  3. We are SOOOO thankful that Christ took up his cross to satisfy the holy and righteous demands laid out in Leviticus. His one simple, however sacrificial, WORLD changing act satisfied EVERY small detail in order to save us and call us into His glorious kingdom! All guilt, shame, sin and anger was SATISFIED by Him. Glory to God!
Here is a link to a document that outlines all the sacrifices we have learned about. We encourage you to take a glance. http://www.harvestgurnee.org/Content/10189/241826.pdf

MonMondayFebFebruary14th2011 Week 8
Dear Friends,
We hope you have been able to stay on track with the reading. Don't worry if you are a few days behind, your just a couple of chapters from catching up!

There are a few interesting things that have come to mind while reading last week.
1) The books of the Bible were written by various authors. Ex: Moses wrote Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The book of Job was written by... well, we don't know who. There are certain things that we can deduce about the author but we may never know his name. In all the Bible was written by more than 40 people. And this is great to know about God's word for many reasons. For one, it shows that God's truth crosses over language, culture and time. And it is remarkable, and I mean REMARKABLE, that the Bible is so unified in its message about God as Creator, Lord and Savior.

2) The books of the Bible were written for different purposes. Genesis and Exodus are in a collection of books that dictate the laws for God's people but Job was written to share wisdom. And still others were written as a historical narrative, prophecy or as letters to other believers (the epistles). Visit http://www.blueletterbible.org/study/misc/66books.cfm to find out more about where the books of the Bible have been categorized. Try to keep these categories in mind as you read. And if you want to read a brief introduction to the books of the Bible visit http://www.blueletterbible.org/study/intros/esv_intros.cfm

3) By the end of the week you may have been saying to yourself, "Didn't I JUST read about building the tabernacle??" Answer: Yes. What happened is (#1)God  told Moses what he wanted done in regards to building the tabernacle, (#2) then we read an account of the Israelites actually building it the way God said. You may feel it's silly to go through the trouble to write out both accounts, and initially I felt the same way. But think of how great it is to see God give instruction and His people follow through with the details. It's a testimony of obedience for the Israelites, which we will read does not happen to often ;) It comforts me to know we have a God who tells us exactly what he desires for us. Two verses come to mind when I think about what God wants for my life. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." And Micah 6:8, "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" I'm glad God doesn't keep us guessing, if we seek we will find.

We are so excited to witness God's goodness in his word with you this year. Can't believe how much we have learned already!!

Hey Friends,
Today we read about God's instructions for the tabernacle. For us this is a completely foreign thing and so we thought we would take a second to explain it a little more.

The tabernacle was God's "home" or "dwelling place" for the Israelites. It was a portable place where Israel could meet with God and offer sacrifices. Later on in history we will see Israel construct 2 permanent structures for them to meet with God; these are the 1st and 2nd temple that have both been destroyed. Today, as Christians, we believe that when we accepted Christ as our personal Lord and Savior he gave us the gift of God's Holy Spirit, which now dwells IN us. The Apostle Paul in 1 Cornithians 3:16 asks, "Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?" Christ made the ultimate sacrifice for us so that God could dwell with us and in us. We no longer need the temporary sacrifices in the tabernacle tent or temple buildings. Looking back we see that God's temporary relief for the Israelites was permanantly satisified in Christ on the cross.

I know this doesn't explain why we needed a sacrifice in the first place. But if you want to know more feel free to email us and we would be happy to go into more detail. One great thing about God is he gave us a book with sufficient answers to these questions, its a matter of looking and praying for understanding.

We also wanted to share with you some neat links that have diagrams of the tabernacle. It is very cool to see a picture of what it most likely looked like. The first link has pictures of an actual life-size model of the tabernacle that was built in Israel. The second link has a few features but the best is the virual tour, VERY COOL! Keep in mind that we do not know the EXACT details of the tabernacle like what the charibums really looked like. But these will give you a good idea of it:

MonMondayFebFebruary7th2011 Week 7
Dear Friends,

We continue to pray for your journey through God's word, and it's our hope that you are being blessed and enriched through it! Last week, we finished the book of Job and read about his amazing conversation with the Lord that eventually led Job to a place of repentance for his unseen sin.  When Job finally came face to face with his self-righteousness, he asked God for forgiveness by stating exactly how he had sinned (Job 42:1-6), and as a result, the Lord restored Job's health and blessed him abundantly (Job 42:10).

We then moved back, in pages, to the book of Exodus to read the story that many of us are familiar with; Moses and the Exodus of Israel.  I don't think I've ever truly grasped this concept before now, but do you remember back in Genesis where the name Israel came from?  That's right, it was the new name given to Jacob by God (Genesis 35:10).  It would be Israel's (Jacob's) ancestors that would eventually receive the promise of a nation of people and the land originally given to Abraham.  Now, flash forward and look at what we have read this past week in Exodus.  The references to Israel refer to the generations of Abraham, Issac, Jacob & Joseph ... their ancestors, which we are now a few generations beyond.  It was Joseph who rose to power in Egypt through the works of the Lord, and provided a place for the decedents of Israel (Jacob) a place to live and survive the famine (Genesis 47:20).
You see, it is by the name Israel that the Hebrew people identify themselves with (no different than, "the descendants of Jacob").  The story of Moses and the Exodus is not the rescue of an already existing nation who was captured and held captive, but rather the beginning of the actual creation of what will become a true nation made of the descendants of Israel.  It's the on-going narrative of God's promises being fulfilled in the midst of human trial, error, and sin.

Consider this:  it's not simply by the name of Israel that the Hebrews identify with and hold on to for generational purposes.  Rather, it's a name given by God and tied with an eternal promise of hope, grace, love and restoration!  As it plays out, Moses will be the chosen person to fulfill and advance the Lord's promises to His people.  Keep that thought in mind when you continue to read through Exodus this week.

If you are a few days, or maybe weeks, behind don't give up now!  Be intentional this week and put in some extra reading time to catch up!  You won't be disappointed!

Dear Friends,

Praying for you all! This is a big undertaking not only because its a lot of reading, but also because there is definitely something spiritual about it. You are "feeding" your soul with God's words and many times we will find our natural selves at odds with the truth. That is why it is great to pray for understanding before you read. Don't be afraid to pray, even if you haven't done it in ages. It may seem simple or elementary but God does hear you. And why wouldn't he LOVE for you to ask to understand his words better?

Speaking of feeling at odds with truth. Anyone else feel very small compared to the greatness of God as the creator (Job 36 and on). I go about my day thinking I am SO important. But really... I don't even take a second to realize that the sun standing in its place, the clouds gathering moisture, the animals grazing in the grass, and the sea not overtaking the shore all make the world go round. I tend to think that what I do makes the world go round. If I was in control we would all die! Seriously! So thankful for our Creator.

Here is a neat resource that we have found very helpful. It's a timeline of the events of the Bible. Very neat to know that these events took place on the real timeline of history. ENJOY!

Praying for your time in God's word this week ...

FriFridayJanJanuary21st2011 Notes on Job
Hey Friends,

Hope you all are enjoying the time you spend in God's word. Remember that you should resist the temptation to understand every word and story we come across. Unfortunately, for me (Mary) this temptation is very strong when I read Job. And although I have kept plowing through our reading I have taken some time to do a little research. Job is a really difficult book to get through because I have always been taught that Job's friends were giving him bad advice. But every time I read this book I don't understand what they are saying wrong. To me they seem to be giving great advice. You might be feeling the same. And I think that is a pure sign of how I/we think just like the rest of the world around us and are so far from thinking the way God thinks. In my searching I found a blog post that concisely explained why Job's friends were wrong in what they said. I brought the article to my Pastor and he confirms that this blog post was "on the money" in answering my question. I hope you find it helpful. Here is what he had to say:

What upset God about Job’s two friends is that they misrepresented Him completely. They argued with Job from the humanist position based on human experience, human tradition and human merit. They were false in their logic and wrong in their conclusions. They believed that man must do things to earn God’s favor and therefore suffering is a sign of God’s displeasure.

While they both correctly asserted that sin had to be at the root of Job’s problem, Eliphaz believed that God was punishing Job for not doing enough good, and Bildad thought Job was just whining because he wanted His wealth back. On the other hand, by justifying himself, Job was condemning God as being unjust.

It’s important to remember that all three men were wrong in their arguments. It wasn’t until Elihu came along that we begin to learn of God’s true nature. In chapter 34 he confirmed the Lord’s inability to do wrong or pervert justice, and in 35 Elihu said that our good works don’t help God at all and our sins don’t cause Him loss. They only affect us and those around us.

Then in chapter 38 when God Himself joined the conversation, we see that Job is neither given a bill of indictment nor a verdict of innocence, but his understanding of God was certainly brought into question.

Finally in chapter 42 Job repented, confessed, and was restored. His knowledge of God had gone from his head to his heart and he understood, and he was now in a position to intercede for his friends.

Now I understand why Job's friends were wrong! They were seeing and interpreting Job's situation from a human perspective, just like ME. It is SO comforting to know that God's plans and love for me are not changed by the bad or good things that I do. Many of the bad things occurring in my life are the result of a poor decision made by me or someone around me. And then there are trials in my life that God is completely just in allowing, just like in Job's life. Later on in the book Job says, " But he (the Lord) knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold." Wouldn't you rather be refined gold than a lump of rock straight from the mountain with all kinds of toxic elements still engulfing it? I want to be the useful gold.

Hope this was as encouraging to you as it was for me.

Many Blessings.

MonMondayJanJanuary17th2011 Week 4
Hello Friends,

Here we are, 4 weeks in to reading through the entire bible this year!  We hope that you are enjoying this chronological journey. We wanted to take a moment to encourage you for taking on this challenge.  Many people will live an entire lifetime without ever reading the bible (God's word to us!) from cover to cover, even once.  We are still very near the beginning of our journey together this year, and how appropriate that we would find an article published this week from the Gospel Coalition on this very issue.  Take a few moments to read through their article, and be encouraged at the task that lays before you this year!http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/tgc/2011/01/09/denzel-washington-martin-luther-and-our-strange-neglect-of-the-bible/

Reading Reflection
It has been stunning to look back on the past 3 weeks and see how "messed up" these people were. It can make you wonder why the writers of the Bible would make the forefathers of Jewish and Christian faith look so bad. But it reminds us that the Bible and Christianity are not about glorifying the people, but it's about glorifying God. We have witnessed, many times already, that God will bless and keep His promises to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and even you and me despite our inability to be perfect. God stills called them, and is calling us, to be faithful to Him but He loves unconditionally. These stories are God-glorifying not man-glorifying. So as you continue to read try to ask yourself, "How is this more about God than it is about the 'storyline'."

WedWednesdayDecDecember29th2010 The Adventure Begins
Welcome to all who have joined the adventure to read the entire bible in 2011. This is going to be a journey you won't forget. We pray that God continues to deepen your desire to dig into his word with every day that passes.

Chronological Order!
The reading plan that we are following takes us through the Bible chronologically by event. For example, we will read about one event in Christ's ministry from all 4 gospels in one day. This is a great way to bring historical perspective to your understanding of God's word.

What To Expect
Every Monday you will receive an email with the reading planned for the next 7 days. However, feel free to download and print the full 2011 reading plan in case you want to read ahead; you can find it here http://www.harvestgurnee.org/Content/10189/236345.pdf

Invite
Invite your friends and family to join the adventure. You never know who might join you. Send out a email blast inviting everyone you know and direct them to http://www.harvestgurnee.org/bibleinyear so they can receive a reading plan and the weekly email reminders. Tell them they can sign up at any point; we will offer them a few options for keeping up.

Start Reading
Take it one day at a time. Highlight. Pray. Underline. Write in the margins. Pray. Share what your learning. Pray.

Do Not Get Discouraged
This is a big adventure and you will fall behind at times. DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED and do not feel guilty. When discouragement comes take a moment to PRAY! It is okay if you fall behind. Your real goal is to read through all of God's word no matter how long it takes you. Take it one day at a time.

Archive
Each weekly email will be archived on the church website. If you loose one you can find it archived at http://www.harvestgurnee.org/bibleinyear
